Kirtland Community College Welcomes Annual Area College Fair’s Return
Forty colleges, universities, and other organization representatives will be present at Kirtland Community College on Oct. 3 from 9-11 a.m. for a college fair event open to local area high school students.
“College preparation can be challenging, and the college fair is a great opportunity for high school students to talk with several college and/or military representatives in person and also to learn about financial aid and other resources that are available to college students,” said Kirtland’s Admissions Recruitment Specialist Teresa Money.
Approximately four hundred local area high school students will attend the event held in the Dr. Thomas Quinn Event Center on the morning of Oct. 3 and are arriving from the Intermediate School District (I.S.D.) of Crawford, Oscoda, Ogemaw, and Roscommon (C.O.O.R.). These students will meet with representatives from state colleges and universities, including, but not limited to, the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Central Michigan University, Northern Michigan University, and Kirtland Community College. Representatives from the U.S. Armed Forces and other organizations will also attend to discuss alternative educational opportunities with students and assist in answering questions relating to higher education.
“The objective of Kirtland’s college fair is to facilitate connections between local high school students and various colleges and universities throughout the state,” said Kirtland’s Vice President of Student Services/Registrar Michelle. “We aim to offer students access to various educational institutions. At the event, students will have the chance to interact with representatives from different colleges, gain insights into individual campuses, inquire about admissions procedures, explore scholarship opportunities, and receive information about financial aid.”
Along with offering chances for students to interact with attending colleges, universities, and other organizations, the college fair will also provide insights and further information on on-campus housing, financial aid, scholarships, and extracurricular programs each institution offers. Community organizations such as Michigan Student Aid and Michigan Works will be at the fair to help students answer financial questions such as how to apply for Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and provide other resources on how to pay for college.
“Learning about options that are available to students after high school, including careers as well as colleges, universities, and the military, are important aspects to preparing for life after high school,” said Money. “We hope that students are able to ask questions to learn more about things like college admissions processes, scholarships and financial aid, housing, athletics, campus life, etc. The college fair experience can be a very valuable tool for students.”
