Kirtland Community College Set to Host ‘Meet the Candidate’ Event on September 12
Kirtland Community College is pleased to announce the “Meet the Candidate” event on Thursday, September 12, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. This engaging forum will take place in Room 1702 at the Grayling Campus, providing an opportunity for the community to meet and hear from two candidates running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Michigan’s 1st District.
The event will feature Democratic candidate Callie Barr and Libertarian candidate Andy Gale, both of whom are running to represent Michigan’s 1st Congressional District.
“The League of Women Voters is a national, nonpartisan organization. That means the League never endorses nor opposes candidates or political parties but does work to obtain and share information to the public about candidates and their views,” said Christina Schlitt, League of Women Voters of the Grand Traverse Area President and Marcia Koppa, League of Women Voters of the Grand Traverse Area, Crawford County Unit Leader. “The League promotes the active and informed participation of all citizens in government. We look forward to working with Kirtland Community College to co-host this candidate forum while working towards that goal.”
The “Meet the Candidate” event is a non-partisan forum organized by Kirtland and the League of Women Voters to encourage civic engagement among the community. Attendees will have the chance to hear directly from the candidates about their policies, visions for the future, and how they plan to address key issues affecting the district. The event will include opening statements from each candidate, followed by a moderated discussion where they will respond to questions from the audience.
“As part of our work to support civic engagement in the community, Kirtland is thrilled to host candidates for this important election on our campus. We’re excited to give members of the public the chance to hear about today’s important issues in an open discussion of ideas,” said Kirtland Dean of Arts and Sciences John Thiel.
This event is open to the public, and all community members, students, and faculty are encouraged to attend. Doors will open at 6:30 PM, and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are encouraged to come prepared with questions to ask the candidates during the Q&A session.
