New Scholarships, Familiar Faces
The Kirtland Foundation Announces Two New Scholarships By College Faculty and Staff
The Kirtland Foundation is offering two new scholarships established by long-standing faculty and staff. The Stan Evers Career Scholarship was established to support and encourage students on their career path, and the Sharpe Family Scholarship was established to benefit students who reside in Grayling and Roscommon.
Stan Evers Career Scholarship
The Stan Evers Career Scholarship awards $500 annually to help close the gap between college costs and other sources of student aid for Kirtland Community College students pursuing a certificate or degree in a career program. Stan, as the first faculty hired at Kirtland Community College, was a founding member who also served in several administrative positions. Stan Evers and his wife, Jill McKenna, are proud to provide this scholarship.
Sharpe Family Scholarship
Ron and Wini Sharpe, longtime employees of Kirtland Community College, established the Sharpe Family Scholarship to benefit students who reside in Grayling and Roscommon. The students also must be enrolled in a skilled trades program at Kirtland Community College.
“Wini and I are very happy with the life we live and Kirtland has been a big part of that,” Ron said. “We both grew up in great families that struggled financially and our hope is that this donation helps students along the way in achieving their goals. The one quote that comes to mind that describes our thoughts is from Winston Churchill: ‘We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.’”Learn more about scholarship opportunities at kirtland.edu/foundation.
