POL 6.012 Placement
Kirtland Community College recognizes the importance of students possessing certain basic skills to succeed in their coursework. Kirtland will look at different demonstrated proficiencies to ensure that students are placed in appropriate college-level courses. Basic skill proficiencies may be demonstrated through one or more of the following items:
- ACT/SAT test results within the last four years
- High school academic performance
- Minimum grade of “C” or better in relevant prerequisite courses transferred from another college or university.
- Test results from the Advanced Placement program, CLEP or DSST
- Credit awarded for educational experiences in the armed services
- Departmental exams or skills assessments
- Articulation credit
- Possession of approved licensure or certification
- Portfolio assessment
Other demonstrated proficiencies for placement may be considered by the Vice President of Student Services.
