Second Grayling Scholarship Garage Sale Fundraiser Planned to Benefit Kirtland Foundation Scholarships
In an effort to raise funds for future Kirtland Foundation Scholarships, Wayne Koppa, a native of Grayling, will be hosting a garage sale fundraiser Saturday May 13 through Sunday May 14 at the Kirtland Community College Dr. Thomas Quinn Event Center.
“We are holding a large garage sale with 100 tables – we have items donated from a condo sale in Chicago along with our own stuff and promises of donations locally – It’s time to put these underused items to work by underwriting education expenses,” said Koppa, events spokesperson.
In 2021 Koppa arranged a similar garage sale fundraiser with the help of The Crawford AuSable Soccer Association which provided 60 tables to display donated material in the Crawford County Sports Complex. Koppa stated that even though this was a much smaller event than the one planned for Kirtland, it paved the way for what success looked like for future events.
“We raised $5,100 in the sales and another $5,000 dollars in donations to permanently fund the Tike and Sally Golnick Scholarship,” said Koppa. “This year’s sale will be held at the Kirtland Community College Event Center. If you have not seen this facility you will be impressed.”
Being held at the newly constructed Dr. Thomas Quinn event center, located at the Kirtland Grayling campus, Koppa believes this year’s event fundraiser to be the largest to date with over a hundred tables being set up.
“The Kirtland Foundation is grateful to Wayne for organizing this garage sale which will support scholarships to benefit students. We hope the public will donate items to support the sale and shop on the days it is open,” said Kirtland Foundation Director Heather Appold. “The garage sale is a win-win for everyone. Individuals get to do some spring cleaning to donate items and those who purchase items are helping students continue higher education goals.”
This year’s garage sale fundraiser is planned for Saturday May13th, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday May 14th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m… Donations of functioning items are welcome and should be delivered to the event center between Tuesday, May 9th, and Friday, May 12th, from 4 to 7 p.m… Example of items that will not be accepted are tube TV’s, Piano’s, computers, and any items that do not operate. Clean clothing on hangers will be taken at this year’s event as well. Organizers of the event will look over items before accepting. All donations are appreciated, but due to limited space and time, some donations may not be accepted. All donated items become the property of the garage sale fundraiser and all profits will support the Kirtland Foundation Scholarship program.
Koppa cautioned to possible donators and advised that if you believe your donations to be the highest quality to bring them in early to stand the best chance for a spot.
“If we run out of room we will have to stop taking donations,” said Koppa.
Koppa further explained that anyone wanting to make a financial donation to the fundraising effort can choose to write a check directly to the Kirtland Foundation as well.
“All donations of items and money are tax deductible and donors may request a form when dropping off items or a check,” said Koppa “It takes $15,000 to fund a $500 yearly endowment scholarship. If we can raise $10,000 the Kirtland Foundation will provide the other $5,000 making the $500 a year scholarship available,” Koppa closed with stating “It’s time to put those items taking up room in your house to work by sending our kids to our community college – what could make more sense?”
