Please reach out to us anytime you have questions or need assistance. You can call us at 989-275-5000, ext. 284, email us at [email protected] or use our online chat located in the lower right corner of your web browser.

There are many ways to get funding to help with college expenses. Please investigate all options you may have.

Completing the FAFSA is the way to apply for federal grants, work-study, and loans with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form. Your college uses your FAFSA data to determine your federal aid eligibility.

Prior to completing the online FAFSA application, students will have to obtain a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID). You can create your FSA ID when you first go to the FAFSA webpage. If you are a dependent student, at least one of your parents will need to get their own FSA ID as well. The FSA ID is the electronic signature that you will use to sign your application.

Even though you may receive an email from FAFSA after your initial aid submission regarding your expected award, that is not the end of the process. Aid applications have to go to Kirtland, be reviewed, sometimes verified (which means you may have a few items to turn in to Kirtland) before an award offer will be communicated to you.

Your aid offer explains the types and amounts of aid a college is offering you, and your expected costs for the year. You could be eligible for grants (you don’t have to pay back), loans (you do have to pay back) and work study. Even though you are eligible for aid you don’t have to accept all of it. If you don’t want a loan, you don’t have to take it. Please connect with Student Financial Services if you have questions about your award.

FAFSA aid can be combined with other benefits. Make sure to investigate all sources available to you. You can learn more by visiting several resources on our website at https://www.kirtland.edu/paying-for-college/.

Contact Student Financial Services if you have any questions or need assistance.

Go to fafsa.gov to start the application for financial aid.

Proof of residency is only REQUIRED if you want to change your residency from out-of-district to in-district or if mail is not deliverable to the address you provided in your application.

The most common form of proof of residence is a valid driver’s license with a current address.  You can submit proof through email or postal mail.  If you are able to take a picture of your document or license you can email it to [email protected]. All questions regarding proof of residence can be directed to Admissions or you can read more here: https://www.kirtland.edu/policies-and-procedures/student-services-policies/pol-6-056-residency/.

You can request an official high school transcript by contacting your school directly, submitting the transcript request form or using the online system, Parchment. Faxed copies of transcripts are not accepted. A copy of your diploma does not fulfill this requirement. An official transcript must come directly to Kirtland from the institution that awarded it.  If an official transcript is mailed to you, you may submit it to Kirtland as official as long as the original envelope it was mailed in was never opened.

If you need to request a GED transcript you can contact the institution that granted your certificate or request one online at the GED TESTING SERVICE.

If you have attended other institutions, please visit their website and request to have official transcripts sent to Kirtland.  Official college transcripts are needed for advising, placement, transfer credit and sometimes the processing of financial aid. Faxed copies of transcripts are not accepted. If you cannot have official transcripts sent to Kirtland, we can use unofficial transcripts to help with placement and advising. However unofficial transcripts will not fulfill the requirement for financial aid purposes or awarding transfer credit.

Kirtland wants to make sure we are able to match you with the course that is the best fit. In order to do that, we will need information from you. Kirtland will NOT be doing ACCUPLACER placement testing for the fall 2020 semester. Please submit one of the following as soon as possible.

  1. SAT or ACT scores. (taken within the last five years)
  2. Transcripts from other colleges that show credit for English and Math
  3. ACCUPLACER test scores from Kirtland or other colleges
  4. Official high school or GED transcript

Electronic copies can be sent to [email protected] or mailed copies can be sent to:
