In our Wood Science Technology program, you’ll learn how to process, design, and manufacture wood products. You’ll gain skills in woodworking, machinery operation, and materials science, as well as understanding the properties of wood and sustainable practices. This program prepares you for careers in industries like furniture making, construction, and woodworking design.

Our Wood Science Technology program includes:

  • Wood Science Technology (AAS)
  • Wood Science Technology (CC)

Wood Science Technology focuses on the study of wood as a natural material, including its properties, processing techniques, and uses in various industries. Students in this field learn to work with wood materials to produce everything from furniture and cabinetry to building materials. The program covers a broad range of topics, including wood anatomy, machining, and sustainable practices, offering valuable insights into the environmental and economic significance of wood in manufacturing.

What’s distinctive about our Wood Science Technology program?

  • Students have the opportunity to earn the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) lumber grading certification on our campus through a partnership with NHLA. 
  • Our instructor has worked in the furniture design and manufacturing industry and holds  nationally recognized certifications.
  • It begins with hands-on learning experiences in our well equipped lab.

At the end of the program students will be able to:

  • Design efficient manufacturing processes for wood products
  • Apply wood industry testing standards to products and materials
  • Inspect various wood products according to industry standards
  • Create CAD drawings for wood products
  • Operate technologically advanced wood manufacturing equipment
  • Use current safety precautions in a manufacturing setting

Using wood as a building block for a sustainable future is my passion. I am excited every day to work with students who wish to pursue careers in the wood industry.

Wood Science Technology introduces students to a project-based curriculum that allows them to use their hands to design, plan, and complete a wide variety of projects in a state-of-the-art woodworking facility.

If you are a constructional thinker and a problem-solver at heart, Wood Science Technology is the program for you!
