POL 1.055 Diversity, Inclusivity, and Equity
Kirtland Community College (Kirtland) strives to provide an educational environment that assists students in completing their educational goals and developing the life skills necessary for them to enrich and support themselves, their families, and their community as engaged global citizens and to prepare them to live and work in diverse cultures.
Kirtland alumni live in 50 states and an unknown number of foreign countries. Because Kirtland is committed to the success of graduates, wherever they live, the college adopts policies, procedures, and curricula that ensure students and graduates are prepared to work in diverse cultures and in addition, foster a culture that encompasses inclusivity, equity, and respect and promotes justice for all.
College curriculum should empower learners with the knowledge, viewpoints, and skills needed for global citizenship and should develop an inclusive community using the cultural experiences of students, faculty, and staff of different racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, economic and social conditions, religious beliefs, generational experience, and national identities. As part of this inclusive community, participants in any classroom are expected to treat others with dignity and respect. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action.
Kirtland’s commitment to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion extends to all college employees. Employee differences in age, ethnicity, gender identity, socio-economic status, and other characteristics that make our employees unique are to be embraced. The recruitment and hiring process as well as ongoing professional development will seek to provide additional diversity in our workplace. All college employees are expected to treat others with dignity and respect and to exhibit conduct that reflects inclusion during work, at work functions on or off the worksite, and at all other college-sponsored and participative events.
Any employee found to have exhibited inappropriate conduct or behavior against others will be subject to disciplinary action.
