Patience. Focus. Precision.
“Patience, focus, and precision.” That’s what Anna Parks says got her 1st place at the Kirtland Community College Bowling Invitational. Anna finished with the best women’s game and series, with 212 and 601 respectively. Parks says that getting a series above 600 is something that has escaped her since she has started bowling seriously–in the past two months alone she has had multiple series in the 590s, but the elusive 600 stayed just out of reach.
The lefty from Lewiston says bowling is in her blood. Anna is a 4th generational bowler who has been bowling since she could walk. “I have lots of fond memories bowling at my parent’s bowling alley, but bowling then was not as serious to me as it is now,” Anna reflects.
This year is Anna’s 3rd and final year on the bowling team. While normally community college athletes are limited to two years of participation, due to COVID-19, athletes got a year that did not count against their two-year limit. “This extra year is something I am really grateful for,” says Parks, “Some of my favorite memories at Kirtland are bowling and being part of the team.”
The Kirtland Bowling Firebirds are about halfway through their season. Their next match will take place on January 28, 2022 at Merribowl lanes–an alley just around the corner from the alley Anna’s parents once owned. When talking about the other half of the season Anna said, “I look forward to the rest of the season and plan to only get better from here.”
