STEP DETAILS
Step 1
Activate your student account with your Kirtland email
The acceptance letter you will receive in the postal mail includes your student ID number, your Kirtland email address and instructions for activating your online student account. It also contains details about documents you need to turn in.
Send an email to [email protected] if you need another copy of your letter.
Do not wait to activate your account! Make sure to remember your password – you will need to log in multiple times on multiple devices. Plan to check your KMail often. Kirtland will send important information about your student account and finances to your KMail.
Step 2
Request transcripts be sent directly to Kirtland
You must have your high school and college transcripts sent to Kirtland for evaluation prior to registering for your classes. Request that an official copy of your transcript(s) be sent directly to:
Office of Admissions
Kirtland Community College
4800 W 4 Mile Rd
Grayling, MI 49738
Download the transcript request form for your high school transcript. A copy of this form is in your acceptance letter.
Step 3
Completing FAFSA is how you get grants, loans or work study
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). APPLY EARLY! It takes time to process.

Step 4
New Student Registration & Welcome Events
Students new to Kirtland are required to attend a New Student Registration & Welcome event.
New Student Registration & Welcome (NSRW) events are designed for admitted students who need to register for courses. These events are free, will provide breakfast snacks, lunch, and crucial college information. Please click the button below to register for a NSRW event.
If you are interested in financial aid, make sure that you complete your FAFSA. You can also click here to see the to-do’s check-list. For additional help, email [email protected] or call 989-275-5000, ext. 284.
Step 5
Proof of residency documentation
(only REQUIRED if you want to change your residency from out-of-district to in-district)
Acceptable proof includes: driver’s license, verifiable rent receipts (if rent receipts are not available, a notarized letter from the landlord will be accepted), a dated lease agreement, Voter Registration card, place of residence property tax receipt (if property is owned by student or student’s parent/guardian), or Secretary of State identification card. Verifiable rent receipts must contain all the following information: the address of the property being rented; the date of payment; signature, address and phone number of the landlord. These documents can be emailed to [email protected].
Step 6
Do you have placement on file that will enable you to register for classes?
Kirtland wants to make sure we match you with the courses that are the best fit. In order to do that, we will need information from you. If we do not have one of the following, you may not be able to register for the courses you want/need.
1) SAT or ACT scores (taken within the last five years)
2) Transcripts from other colleges that show credit for English and/or Math
3) Official high school transcript or GED transcript
If you have not done so already, please request to have one or more of these items sent to Kirtland. Electronic copies can be sent to [email protected] or mailed copies can be sent to:
