Kirtland Community College Provides Venue for Political Candidates
One thing most political candidates have in common is that they enjoy debating, discussing, and lobbying about things, but few gather together on one night to provide their local community members a chance to ask them questions and receive a direct response, share refreshments and mingle with their many local constituents.
Kirtland Community College president, Dr. Tom Quinn, announced last week that the college would be hosting a “Meet the Candidates Night” on September 14 at 7 p.m., where community members will get their chance to hear the answers to many of their most pressing questions concerning community members, issues of concerns, and get to know their politicians.
The Kirtland Community College administrator John Thiel, Dean of Liberal Arts, understands that quite often, a leader rises up and makes a moving speech every three to five years that causes dramatic changes in how our community views social and political issues. Providing a venue for political candidates such as Jack Bergman (R), Bob Lorinser (D), Adam Wojdan (D), Joel Sheltrown (D), Michele Hoitenga (R), Kevin Barton (R), Mike Hoadley (R), and Kenneth Kish (D) to directly communicate with citizens of their communities is what prompted the “Meet the Candidate Night” at Kirtland.
Kirtland Community College will solicit questions from citizens prior to the event on September 14 at 7 p.m. The moderator for the event and a panel of local citizens will collate the questions and pose representative questions to the candidates. Community members are encouraged to participate in this event.
