Matt Biermann

Director of Information Technology

Matt Biermann was appointed Director of Information Technology in January 2017. He brings 28 years of experience in higher education and technology, with a background spanning system and network administration, information security, risk assessment, business continuity, and incident response.

As the College’s Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Security Officer, Matt is responsible for the strategic oversight, operations, and security of the institution’s data infrastructure. He also teaches courses in cybersecurity and information assurance, sharing his experience with the next generation of IT professionals.

Matt holds an Associate of Arts from Kirtland Community College, a Bachelor of Science from Eastern Michigan University, and a Master of Professional Studies from Pennsylvania State University.

Outside of his professional role, Matt is active in youth initiatives, serves on his local K-12 school board, and enjoys year-round outdoor activities, making the most of Northern Michigan’s natural beauty and recreational opportunities.
