POL 6.012 Placement Testing
Kirtland Community College recognizes the importance of students possessing certain basic skills in English, reading and mathematics. Therefore, placement testing is required of all students attending Kirtland Community College except for those students transferring from another college or university who have completed English and mathematics with a minimum grade of a “C” or better. Basic skill proficiencies may also be demonstrated through one or more of the following items:
- ACT/SAT test results within the last four years
- Test results from the Advanced Placement program, CLEP or DSST
- Credit awarded for educational experiences in the armed services
- Departmental exams
- Articulation credit
- Possession of approved licensure or certification
- Portfolio assessment
Non-degree, guest or personal interest students are not required to take the placement test but must meet all course pre-requisites.
Further exceptions to the placement testing policy may be granted by the Vice-President of Student Services.
