Groundskeeper
Performs general maintenance of the college campus grounds including lawn care, landscaping, snow removal, and trash pickup.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
- Performs general grounds maintenance such as cutting grass, trimming and pruning trees and shrubs, spraying for disease and insect control, and applying fertilizer.
- Ability to safely and effectively operate heavy machinery such as forklift, tractors, mowers, front end loaders, trailers, water tanks, stake trucks, dump trucks, and pickup trucks.
- Assists with landscaping tasks such as planting bushes, shrubs, and trees; weeding of newly landscaped areas; and spreading of landscaping of materials such as bark or rocks.
- Performs minor repairs on groundskeeping equipment.
- Empty campus trash containers; rakes and disposes of leaves and debris from college campus.
- Removes snow and ice from the campus and spreads salt during the winter months.
- May be required to perform the duties of the utility worker as required by the administration to meet the needs of the college.
- Performs other related tasks as required.
SUPERVISION – Works under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities Management
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED
- Up to one year related groundskeeping experience, or combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position
- Ability to operate heavy equipment
- Ability to do minor repairs on mechanical equipment
- Ability to work independently to perform assigned duties
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving up to 50 pounds
- Valid driver’s license
WORKING CONDITIONS – Interior conditions are generally those of a typical office building environment, and require frequent bending, lifting, a wide range of arm movement, finger and hand dexterity, and occasional climbing and working from ladders and lifting devices. Exterior conditions may involve inclement weather, including rain, ice, snow, and high wind, and require frequent bending, lifting, a wide range of arm movement, finger and hand dexterity, occasional climbing and working from ladders and lifting devices, and the safe operation and maintenance of groundskeeping equipment. Visual identification of work requirements and safety hazards is required under all conditions.
