Simulation Technician
The Simulation Center Technician works together with the Simulation Coordinator, Simulation staff, and KCC Instructors to create lifelike immersive medical simulation productions so that learners may practice their lifesaving skills and behaviors. The position requires basic technical skills proficiency, a creative resourcefulness, an organizational expertise, and an aptitude for learning quickly.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
- Conducts medical simulation activities under the direction of the Simulation Coordinator and Health Science Instructors.
- Transforms medical case scenarios into realistic simulated learning environments which include:
- Integrating audio and video technology into simulation learning activities.
- Utilizing available resources and technologies โ including moulage, programming, props, wardrobe, and set design.
- Creating new and innovative solutions to improve on the realism of simulation activities.
- Developing and refining technical skills expertise.
- Role-plays as needed for simulation activities.
- ย Assists with Simulation Center orientation, tours, scheduling, creating sessions in software, and training activities.
- Provides routine simulator, computer, and audio/video equipment maintenance and the set-up, programming, operation, and monitoring of simulation software, computers, and simulators (computerized mannequins and task trainers), and digital video cameras.
- Provides some technical support including cleaning, troubleshooting, and minor repairs.
- Monitors stock levels and maintains storage areas to a high standard, including recommendations for equipment and supply purchases and disposal and repair procedures.
- Maintains the operational integrity of the Simulation Center which includes:
- Documenting all simulation activities and assists in maintaining a record of all educational activities.
- Identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Displaying a high degree of initiative, energy, dedication, and innovation on a regular basis.
- Maintaining the Simulation Center as a clean, safe, and optimal learning environment.
- Supports and upholds INACSLโs standards of best practice for simulation and all other applicable policies and procedures of Kirtland Community College.
- Maintains current knowledge of simulation equipment catalogs and operation manuals.
- Must be organized and able to communicate appropriately in all types of situations.
- Demonstrates effective teamwork and team membership at all times, able to work independently, and problem solve efficiently.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Current certification in a health-related field such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or a similar field.
- At least one year of experience in direct patient care.
- Ability to safely perform in a simulation setting.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
- Experience working with computer software, audiovisual, and wireless communication systems.
SUPERVISION โ Works under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing and Allied Health in collaboration with the Simulation and Skills Lab Coordinator.
ATTENDANCE โ The individual in this position is expected to be generally present and available throughout the year during the normal business hours of the college, and may occasionally have work obligations outside of the collegeโs normal business hours.
WORKING CONDITIONSโ Conditions are those of a typical office and classroom environment, requiring frequent oral and written communication with college employees, students, and vendors, the presentation of information on-line and in face-to-face settings, and the ability to enter data and written communications in electronic format in a timely manner. The ability to be generally and continuously aware of the safe and appropriate operation of the lab equipment and material is essential.
