Tutor – Nursing
This position will play a pivotal role in helping Nursing Students navigate through their academic journey, develop skills essential to success in their programs and careers, and confidently achieve their goals in the Health Science field.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
- Assist with implementation of procedures related to academic success and remediation of students, in collaboration with the faculty.
- Facilitates ongoing supplemental instruction sessions (review sessions, workshops, study seminars, review for NCLEX-RN) for nursing students. (Including availability to tutor after normal classroom hours).
- Coordinate and schedule tutoring sessions based on requested student needs.
- Conduct individual and workshop sessions to foster development of skills that impact success – proper time management, study techniques, coping with test anxiety, etc.
- Update and develop tutoring materials.
- Monitor student progress and adapt tutoring plans, as necessary.
- Refer students to appropriate resources to aid in their success.
- Possess a thorough understanding of policies, procedure, requirements, and effectively communicating them to students.
- Ensures processes are in place to track, monitor and record student completion and/or program outcomes.
- Ensures and maintains a respectful and professional working environment using active learning, reflective thinking and confidential debriefing processes.
- Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and continuous quality improvement of the student tutoring program.
- Review and develop action plans based on student and faculty feedback for improvement of program.
- Maintain confidential student files and records documenting all pertinent academic information upholding FERPA regulations.
- Performs other duties as requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from an accredited institution.
- Possession of at least one year clinical experience in a health professional setting.
- Clear and Active Registered Nurse License in the State of Michigan.
- Ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care.
- Experience utilizing current office software and electronic communication.
Experience utilizing online conferencing software.
SUPERVISION – Works under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing in collaboration with the Director of Library and Tutoring Services.
ATTENDANCE – Individuals in this position are expected to be available during the normal business hours of the college, and occasionally on evenings and weekends for tutoring sessions, special presentations, and events.
WORKING CONDITIONS – Conditions are those of a typical office environment, requiring frequent oral communication with students and colleagues, the ability to enter data and written communications in electronic format in a timely manner, and sufficient mobility to be present and address students, their parents, and fellow professionals at appropriate college and regional functions.
