POL 3.010 Public Communication and Informational Materials
Public Communications
Kirtland Community College was created and is partially funded by the electorate of the college district. Consequently, it is incumbent on those directly responsible for the operation of the college to keep the public informed of ongoing activities and programs.
The Office of the Director of Communications and Marketing is responsible for overseeing and approving all requests for any form of commercial speech on campus. This includes, but is not limited to, the posting or distribution of notices, advertisements, solicitations, flyers, publications, or any other forms of commercial communication.
All such requests must be submitted in advance and receive written approval from the Office of the Director of Communications and Marketing before any materials are distributed or displayed. Failure to obtain prior approval may result in the removal of unauthorized materials and other appropriate actions as determined by the College.
Employees will follow state and federal laws regarding the dissemination of information about students.
All publicity concerning the college, its administrative staff, faculty, and students that are directed to mass communication media will be transmitted through the Office of the President and the Public Information Officer, as designated by the President.
When speaking to the public or the press, board members, employees, and persons affiliated with the college will make it clear they are expressing their personal opinion, and not that of the Board of Trustees.
Informational Materials
The administration of the college will develop and distribute materials designed to inform the public about academic programs, student services, community services, and workforce development programs.
The administration will publish materials required by accreditation and government agencies.
