Transfer In a Nutshell
When college websites promote “credits that transfer” it simply means that courses you complete at one college will be accepted at another. Beyond being accepted, credits that transfer well are those that will count toward the program you’re pursuing rather than just count as “electives” or “extras” that you didn’t actually need.
Students who attend one college and want to move to another care that the work they’ve already completed isn’t wasted, nor was the money that they spent on those classes.
Transferring credits is often challenging when students move from one public or private university to another, even when both universities are in Michigan.
Unless one of those institutions is a community college.
What Makes Community College Transferring Different?
Community Colleges are experts in creating courses and degrees that are accepted by Michigan’s four-year universities and colleges. In fact, we spend a lot of time working with Michigan’s public universities to ensure that the courses we develop match their expectations, because we know our students have big dreams that sometimes depend on getting a bachelor degree or beyond.
You matter to Kirtland, because it matters to us that you have options. It matters to us that you don’t spend more time and money on the incredible college experience that you deserve.
Kirtland’s transfer programs allow you to start out close to home at a college where we value personal attention and creating a sense of belonging. Because of state-level assurances like the Michigan Transfer Agreement, you don’t need to worry about whether your courses are going to be accepted at whatever public Michigan University you want to attend next.
You’ll save between $4,000 and $6,000 a year on average on tuition alone. And, you won’t need to worry about expensive room and board costs.
The coursework is the same, but the attention you’ll get is different—at Kirtland:
- Your instructors will know your name.
- You’ll learn alongside students with the same smart outlook on life as you.
- You’ll be seen.
- You’ll be challenged.
- And, graduation data shows that you’ll be more likely to actually finish that four year degree because of having started at Kirtland.
You can complete our transfer programs completely online or you can choose to take many of our courses in person. It’s totally up to you. Plus, Kirtland’s instructors have decades of combined online teaching experience and deliver courses that can be more valuable than those in a traditional classroom. You’ll be able to ask questions without hesitation and will receive a direct response from your instructor.
