POL 5.350 Emeritus/Honoraire Status

Eligibility – Emeritus status

The title “emeritus” will be granted to each faculty member or administrator who retires directly from Kirtland Community College into the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System and who has completed ten consecutive years of service at Kirtland Community College.

Privileges

  1. Receive a framed certificate of the board of trustees’ resolution that confers emeritus status.
  2. Receive a scholarship covering tuition for one course or covering a fee for one non-credit class per semester. This scholarship may be used by the person who has been awarded emeritus status or by a member of that person’s immediate family.
  3. Upon request, receive a Kirtland internet account.
  4. Retain library privileges at the Kirtland Community College library.
  5. Emeritus may request two Section C complimentary tickets, on a per show basis, to each performing artist series event. Tickets can be reserved in advance, but must be picked up by the emeritus at the lobby ticket office no later than 7:30 p.m. the evening of the performance. Tickets are meant for use by the emeritus and guest.
  6. Retain privileges to use college facilities such as the athletic fields, tennis courts, and nature trail.
  7. Continue to receive mailings of college publications such as the catalog, schedule, newsletters, and bulletins.
  8. Receive invitations to all graduations as well as other college events and social functions.
  9. Will be invited to participate in commencement ceremonies.
  10. May be invited to serve on college committees.
  11. May be invited to teach some classes as a part-time instructor.
  12. In some cases, may be granted the use of office space.
  13. May be afforded other courtesies and privileges that are deemed appropriate.

Eligibility – Honoraire status

The title “honoraire” will be granted to each classified staff member who retires directly from Kirtland Community College into the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System and who has completed ten consecutive years of service at Kirtland Community College. Members of the Board of Trustees who serve on the board for ten consecutive years will also be granted honoraire status. Trustees who complete one full six-year term will be accorded the following privileges except items 1, 2, and 5.
