Part-time Lead Tutor, Math
Provides tutorial assistance in math arts to students, with a focus on those with special learning problems. Conducts workshop and classroom presentations on topics to benefit under-prepared college students, marketing of tutoring services, or specific content areas as needed. Assists the director of tutoring and student success by training and mentoring new tutors and assisting with other technical aspects of the tutorial program.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
- Tutors students in individual or group settings, especially those with special learning problems.
- Conducts workshop and classroom presentations on math-related topics as well as marketing of tutoring services or specific content areas as needed.
- Assists at tutor training sessions and mentoring of new tutors.
- Develops original materials for training sessions and tutoring sessions.
- Ensures that adequate instructional materials are available to meet course objectives; this may include preparing and submitting requests for instructional materials, supplies, and equipment to the faculty.
- Utilizes advanced training and expertise to benefit other tutors and the tutorial program.
- Maintain records as required by the Tutoring Center.
- Communicate with faculty regarding student progress.
- Update Tutoring website and related tutoring LibGuides.
- Act as a representative for the tutoring program within the college community.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION – Works under the general supervision of the director of library and tutoring
ATTENDANCE – Individuals in this position are expected to be available during the normal business hours of the college, and may occasionally be asked to vary their schedule to meet department requirements. On-site attendance is typically required unless otherwise specified.
WORKING CONDITIONS – Conditions are those of a typical office environment, requiring frequent oral, written and various other forms of communication with students and colleagues, and the ability to enter data and written communications in electronic format in a timely manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in math or related field
- One to three years tutorial experience as a non-student tutor, or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position
- Current or past math instructor preferred
- Knowledge of computer and current office applications.
- Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills in order to appropriately articulate suggestions for writing improvement and strategies.
- Able to function independently, respect confidentiality, implement problem-solving, and maintain courtesy in dealing with students, faculty, staff, and visitors
