Coordinator – Skilled Trades Laboratories
Responsible for a on-site management and maintenance of the college’s skilled trades laboratories located at the M-TEC. Provides instructional and technical support to the M-TEC faculty and students who utilize the skilled trades laboratories in the achievement of their course objectives.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
Ensures that equipment within the skilled trades laboratories is maintained in working order by completing scheduled preventive maintenance and, when necessary, troubleshooting and repairing broken equipment.
Functions as M-TEC safety coordinator and trainer, maintains the materials safety and data sheets for all supplies located within the skilled trades laboratories and assists faculty and students to comply with MIOSHA regulations.
Ensures that instructional equipment and supplies are readily available to faculty and students by establishing and maintaining an inventory system for each of the skilled trades laboratories.
Assists faculty with budget preparation, initiates purchase orders for equipment and supplies within budgetary parameters, maintains supply and equipment budgets for skilled trades programs at the M-TEC and the manufacturing and welding programs on Kirtland’s main campus.
Provides instructional support to faculty within scope of professional knowledge by answering routine questions posed by students and incorporating activities associated with preventive maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment into the student learning process.
Maintains the skilled trades laboratories in a clean and orderly condition during hours of operation.
Coordinates with facilities management staff for opening the M-TEC building and changing security tapes.
Supervises student workers and/or approved jail inmates on community service work release in the lab areas. Supervises and coordinates with student projects in the various trade programs.
Responsible for facilitating workforce development training and operations as required based on training schedules and locations of training.
Works independently with vendors for the procurement of materials and schedules with contracts for various projects within the skilled trades programs on all Kirtland’s campuses.
Performs other related tasks as required.
SUPERVISION – Works under the general supervision of the dean of instruction.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree
- Journeyman card in industrial maintenance
- Three to five years of prior related experience, or combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving up to 30 pounds
- A valid driver’s license
- Working knowledge of computerized inventory control system and/or databases
- Ability to work effectively with adults in an educational setting
