Financial Aid Support Specialist
Provides clerical and data entry services for the student financial aid office. Operates electronic data communication systems with outside agencies.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
- Responsible for transferring financial aid applications from the Department of Education secured site to the financial aid software system.
- Responsible for retrieval of State of Michigan grant and scholarship award rosters and loading to the financial aid software system.
- Verifies accuracy of data and makes correction if needed, Federal database (C-code) resolution: resolve database mismatches including communicating with responsible agency [e.g. US Department of Education Processing System (CPS) and National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) and students
- Generates letters to procure requested or missing information from students.
- Reviews incoming documentation and transfers to secure imaging system.
- Responsible for posting and monitoring scholarship opportunities on financial aid web page.
- Prepares student loan exit interview packets to graduating/withdrawing students.
- Generates default prevention letters to students.
- Assists with file set-up and processing of Veterans Benefits including post-semester file audits.
- Assists with end of semester Satisfactory Academic Progress process and Return of Title IV calculations.
- Performs other related tasks as required.
SUPERVISION – Works under the general supervision of the Director of Financial Aid
ATTENDANCE – Individuals in this position are expected to be available during the peak business hours of the college, and may occasionally be asked to work more than their regularly scheduled hours.
WORKING CONDITIONS – Conditions are those of a typical office environment, requiring the ability to read and enter data and written communications in electronic format in a timely manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree in office information systems, accounting/business or related field.
- One to three years of related experience in student support services or client support services, or combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position.
- Knowledge of data entry and word processing (typing, editing, formatting documents)
- Ability to quickly learn and effectively utilize financial aid software and other software as needed
- Ability to process and maintain information that is often ambiguous and highly confidential. Must understand and adhere to procedural and confidentiality requirements of federal and state laws.
