Lead Auxiliary Services Specialist
Assists with the operation of the college bookstore, grill, catering, and may occasionally assist in the operation of the other auxiliary services.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
- Assists in supervising and training auxiliary service employees.
- Places orders and processes invoices for college’s office supplies, clothing, food, and miscellaneous items.
- Prices products using predetermined profit margins.
- Performs efficient retail customer service.
- Assists in the preparation and cooking of hot and cold foods, serves food to students, employees, campus guests and catered events.
- Assists with cleaning cafeteria equipment.
- Assists with set-up and preparation tasks, moves and positions tables and chairs as required for food service, meetings, or conferences
- Inputs information into Point of Sale system and uses cash registers as needed
- Responsible for receiving shipments of merchandise, books, and food that will then need to be stocked accordingly; some shipments will also require the building of displays
- Receives and processes returns, sells textbooks and special course materials.
- Follows food safety and sanitation requirements
- Operates and maintains bookstore’s digital textbook inventory system
- Independently oversees catered and other related events in lieu of the director of auxiliary services on an as-needed basis.
- Supervises, trains, schedules and evaluates students employed in the bookstore, grill, and catering services through the work-study program. Works with the office of financial aid to ensure work-study students function within federal, state, and institutional guidelines and with student services to assure maintenance of academic standards of all students under his/her charge.
- Performs other related tasks as required
SUPERVISION – Works under the general supervision of the Director of Auxiliary Services.
ATTENDANCE – Individuals in this position are expected to be generally available during the normal business hours of the college, and for evening and weekend events as scheduled. Must be able to work variable hours. May at times require evening and/or weekend activity and travel. Persons in this position are considered essential personnel and are expected to adhere to their normal work schedules regardless of college closures, cancellations, or inclement weather unless otherwise directed by their supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS – Conditions are those of a typical retail, catering and food service environment, requiring observation of appropriate food handling and safe kitchen equipment operating and cleaning procedures, oral communication with clients, vendors and colleagues, the ability to lift, stack, and transport bulk food items and retail stock, to handle and serve food and retail items, arrange furnishings, and the ability to enter data and written communications in electronic format in a timely manner. Occasional travel may be required, including evenings and under conditions of inclement weather.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree in business or related field OR
- Three to five years of related work experience or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position.
- Current food service certifications, or willingness and ability to acquire within 90 days.
- Proficiency in standard office and instructional software applications.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving up to 50 pounds, perform routine cleaning and serving, and operate a cash register.
