Maintenance I, M-TEC
Provides on-site maintenance, grounds and custodial services at the Michigan Technical Education Center (M-TEC) and the joined University Center (UC) facilities in Gaylord, MI. Provides routine preventative maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery including plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, ventilation, heating, air conditioning, maintains the surrounding grounds and parking areas, provides general facilities services such as trash pickup, shipping and receiving, and custodial tasks to maintain the premises in a clean and orderly condition during hours of operation, etc. May occasionally work under hazardous conditions and must maintain safety awareness and conform to MIOSHA standards at all times. Knowledge of building, fire, health, and safety codes must be applied to ensure that the work done will pass inspection and meet ADA requirements.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
Conducts routine inspection of college facilities, equipment, and grounds for defects and to determine service needs
Programs, operates, and monitors the performance of the computerized climate control system; performs maintenance and repair of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure proper operation of boilers, pumps, water heaters, air handling units, pneumatic systems, fans, and other related equipment
Performs routine maintenance on the various building mechanical systems; repairs and/or replaces pumps and motors, changes belts and filters, and lubricates various moving parts.
Performs various building trade tasks such as carpentry, painting, and concrete work; makes electrical and plumbing repairs and installations
Performs maintenance tasks such as minor equipment repairs, lock repair or replacement, light bulb and fluorescent fixtures replacement, installing shelves and cabinets, moving furniture and equipment, etc.
Installs and repairs electrical wiring and computer and audio/visual cables.
Removes snow from college parking areas and walkways; spreads salt on walkways and building entrance areas
May assist in the operation of the waste water treatment plant on main campus
May perform general grounds maintenance such as cutting grass, trimming and pruning trees and shrubs, spraying for disease and insect control, and applying fertilizer
Provides custodial services in order to maintain the facility and grounds in a clean and orderly condition during hours of operation (trash pickup, cleans up spills, keeps restrooms supplied with paper products and soaps, etc.)
Locks and unlocks building doors, activates and deactivates the facilities security system
Removes snow and ice from the campus and spreads salt during the winter months
Provides shipping and receiving services for the M-TEC and UC
May be called outside of regular working hours to respond to heating/cooling system
breakdowns or malfunctions, and/or other facility emergencies
Performs other related tasks as ay be required on all Kirtland campuses
SUPERVISION – Works under the general supervision of the director of facilities management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED and one year of technical, vocational, or trade school
- Three to five years of experience in electrical, heating, cooling, ventilation; experience in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, roofing, and with direct control of HVAC system preferred
- EPA certification in refrigerants preferred
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic drawings
- Working knowledge of the operations and repair of mechanical equipment
- Working knowledge of safety factors and legal codes
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving up to 50 pounds, and ascending ladders
- Valid driver’s license
