Kirtland Foundation Announces Fall 2023 Scholarship Recipients
The Kirtland Foundation is proud to announce 59 scholarship awardees for the Fall 2023 semester. Sixty-two scholarships were awarded, totaling $40,250 in disbursed funds.
“The Fall 2023 scholarship applications were a strong field of candidates. Approximately 88 students applied and we had 62 scholarships available to award. The scholarship review committee worked hard to award qualified candidates the scholarships and help further higher education,” said Heather Appold, Director of the Kirtland Foundation. “Thank you to the donors for funding the scholarships, the review committee for their time to read each scholarship and the students for applying.”
Each semester the Kirtland Foundation offers scholarships to students enrolled at Kirtland Community College. These scholarships are additional aid used by students to pay for tuition, classes, and any course materials they may need. Students only needed to fill out one application to apply for all scholarships they were eligible to receive. Each student applying for a foundation scholarship must submit a written essay describing why they feel they deserve the scholarship, and have letters of recommendation supporting their application.
“Helping students receive scholarships is one of my favorite parts of being a Kirtland Foundation board member,” said Sandra Woods, President of the Kirtland Foundation. “Many students in our communities need help financially to go to school and awarding scholarships is a great way to help.”
Made up from induvial donors and business’, the fall and winter foundation scholarships further help provide additional financial aid to students attending Kirtland. Foundation scholarships can come in the form of program specific or general aid towards tuition and other costs. Scholarship funds are attached to the student’s state and federal finical aid package, that is then put towards their education at the beginning of each semester.
“It is wonderful to hear their [students] stories of how meaningful it is to receive a scholarship and I hope the donors realize what an impact they have on the students,” said Dr. Thomas Quinn, President of Kirtland Community College.
