Local/Regional External Scholarships

North Central Area Credit Union (NCACU) 2014 Scholarship ($1,000)

NCACU is accepting applications for their 2014 Scholarships from members of NCACU who demonstrate academic excellence, citizenship, and community and school involvement. Applicants must be a member of NCACU in good standing, have completed 24 credit hours of college level courses, and plan to complete a degree at an accredited two or four year college.

MARSP Crawford-Oscoda Chapter Winter 2015 Scholarship ($600)

The Crawford-Oscoda Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel is accepting applications for their Winter 2015 Semester Scholarship. A $600 scholarship will be awarded to a Crawford or Oscoda County student for the Winter 2015 Semester at Kirtland Community College. Applicants must be a resident of Crawford or Oscoda County, have completed 24 college level credits, have a minimum GPA of 2.75, and must be enrolled for Winter 2015 with a minimum half-time status.

GTALP Glenna F. Spellicy Memorial Scholarship ($500)

The Grand Traverse Area Legal Professionals Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce that they are offering the Glenna F. Spellicy Memorial Scholarship to be awarded in April of 2015. The $500 scholarship, which will be awarded on the basis of merit, ability, financial need, and the desire to pursue a career in the legal field, is open to students who meet the requirements listed in the link below.

MMCA 2014 Kenley Farrel Memorial Scholarship ($1,000 & $250)

The Michigan Mosquito Control Association is accepting applications for MMCA’s Kenley Farrel Memorial Scholarship. This essay scholarship is offered to high school seniors and college undergraduates planning to attend college in the 2015 school year. Applicants must be a US citizen and a Michigan resident and must have a GPA of 2.5 or better.

Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. 2015 Student Disability Scholarship ($1,000)

Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. ( offers a $1,000.00 scholarship which is available to students with any type of disability, including but not limited to physical disabilities, medical conditions, mental and psychiatric conditions, speech and language, learning disabilities, behavioral conditions, and all other conditions. All students are encouraged to apply even if they are not sure if they meet the disability criteria. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, be enrolled at and have completed at least one semester of classes at an accredited college or university, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and have a disability diagnosis from any person qualified to make a diagnosis.

Gerrish-Higgins/Roscommon Alumni Association $1,000 Scholarship

The Gerrish-Higgins/Roscommon Alumni Association offers scholarships to Roscommon High School graduates whose parent, grandparent, or legal guardian also attended Gerrish-Higgins/Roscommon High School.

Application Deadline: None as applications are accepted throughout the year.  (However to be recognized at Awards Night the deadline is April 30, 2015.)

Many colleges and universities offer transfer scholarship. Check with the Admissions or Financial Aid Office of the school you are transferring to. 

National External Scholarships

A Place for Mom $1,000 Scholarship (5 to be awarded)

A Place for Mom is proud to offer their annual $1,000 scholarship to college students interested in the fields of aging and gerontology. Students must be enrolled in an associates’ degree or bachelor’s degree program in a medical, nursing or social sciences related major. The student must be planning on pursuing a career that involves working with senior citizens. The applicant must be attending classes at an accredited college or university at the time of the spring deadline.
