The 1098-T statement will be available on the student’s myKirtland account at https://my.kirtland.edu/ics by January 31 each year for the previous tax year.
The student or the person who can claim the student as a dependent may be eligible for an education tax credit. Students that have out-of-pocket expenses for tuition, fees and textbooks over and above financial aid assistance may qualify for the American Opportunity Credit or Lifetime Learning Credit.
The College is required to either report tuition payments in box 1 or tuition charges in box 2 of the 1098-T. The College has elected to report tuition charges in box 2. In order to view your payment history, go to the “My Account Detail” menu from the Student Tab at https://my.kirtland.edu/ics.
The information reported on Form 1098-T is intended to help students evaluate their eligibility for education tax credits as part of their Federal Income Tax Return. While it is a good starting point, the 1098-T does not contain all of the information needed to claim a tax credit. It is up to each taxpayer to determine eligibility for the credits and how to calculate them.
If you need copies of forms from previous tax years, please send us an email from your Kmail account to email@example.com.
The College cannot provide assistance regarding your eligibility or the calculation of the credit. For further assistance, please contact your tax advisor or refer to Publication 970, Form 8863, and the Form 1040 or 1040A instructions at www.irs.gov.
